NIGGG carries out fundamental and applied scientific research in the fields of geophysics, seismology, seismic engineering, geodesy and geography in order to support the sustainable development of the Republic of Bulgaria. The nationwide activities of the institute ensure the continuous (24/7) functioning of 7 scientific and operational services that produce monitoring data and expert information, analyzes and assessments of natural and anthropogenic risks for the state and society, incl. seismic risk, risks regarding the stability of buildings, engineering facilities and infrastructure.
