
Scientists from the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore with the Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences discussed cases related to immovable cultural values with the category of "local importance" with experts in law, archaeology, Christian and Muslim cultural heritage. The project team "Policies for the protection and promotion of immovable cultural values of local importance in Bulgaria. Ethnological analysis based on the examples of the municipalities of Balchik, Kavarna, Garmen and Sandanski", carried out with the financial support of the Center for Excellence "Heritage BG", presented interim work results of its field and documentary studies during a round table held on 15 November 2022.
Various issues and challenges related to the preservation and promotion of immovable cultural heritage (ICH) were discussed. Topics related to accessibility, awareness, and the potential for development (or lack thereof) of these assets as cultural, historical, and tourist sites were debated. The place of ICH in public life and the local economy was discussed, as well as their role in strengthening the identity of local communities.
The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Tourism, the National Academic Library and Information System Foundation, and colleagues from various institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
