Educational materials of the National Ethnographic Museum (IEFEM)

On International Museum Day, May 18, 2022, in Hall 11 of the National Ethnographic Museum (NEM), a package of educational materials intended for the museum's Education Center was officially presented.

On International Museum Day, May 18, 2022, in Hall 11 of the National Ethnographic Museum (NEM), a package of educational materials intended for the museum's Education Center was officially presented.

The materials were developed under the project "Policies for the Preservation and Socialization of (Intangible and Movable) Cultural Heritage" of the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, implemented under the leadership of corresponding member, Professor Mila Santova, Doctor of Arts, within the framework of project BG05M2OP001-1.001-0001 "Establishment and Development of the Center for Excellence "Heritage BG", activity B.

The special educational package is aimed at young audiences and different age groups, starting with the youngest. It is intended to be used by children and students of different ages, as well as adult visitors to the museum. The package includes presentations and accompanying texts that present in an accessible way various artifacts of movable and elements of intangible cultural heritage, as well as cultural policies for their preservation. The aim is to support the NEM Education Center in fulfilling its important mission to educate and promote, which is a common practice for museums around the world.

The event was attended by corresponding member, professor, doctor of historical sciences Ivan Ilchev, head of the project "Establishment and Development of the Center for Excellence "Heritage BG", Assoc. Prof. Ivanka Petrova, PhD – deputy director of IEEM-BAS, Dr. Iglika Mishkova, head of NEM, the team of the project "Policies for the Preservation and Socialization of (Intangible and Movable) Cultural Heritage," and colleagues.
Corresponding member Mila Santova presented Dr. Mishkova with the presentations prepared by the experts.
The materials in the educational package cover a variety of topics: the emergence of the idea of cultural heritage preservation; museum objects; community centers; the Koprivshtitsa Fair; the Bistritsa Babi; Chiprovtsi carpets; martenitsas; Lazarus Saturday; egg painting; bread and flatbread in traditional culture; the ritual of survakane; traditional women's activities (spinning, weaving, embroidery, knitting); traditional hairstyles; the Christian church as a treasure trove; traditional building crafts and architecture, etc.
