New website for accessing the archives of the Institute for Art Studies (BAS)

On January 27, 2023 (Friday) at 5 p.m. in the Prof. Marin Drinov Hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (15 November Street No. 1), the new website for accessing the archives of the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies was demonstrated and a film was presented with excerpts from the first digitized field films in the Institute's Music and Folklore Archive.

The website is the result of a project entitled "Cultural Heritage in the Archives of the Institute for Art Studies: Interactive Map of the Arts in Bulgaria," which was implemented as part of the larger project "Establishment and Development of the Center for Excellence 'Heritage BG,'"  funded by the Operational Program "Science and Education for Smart Growth" 2014-2020, Priority Axis 1 "Scientific Research and Technological Development," co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The main objective of the project "Cultural Heritage in the Archives of the Institute for Art Studies: Interactive Map of the Arts in Bulgaria" was to build a website that would make a rich database on the archives of the Institute for Art Studies (BAS) available online. The platform provides information and illustrative material in accordance with the requirements and specifics of each of the art history specialties in whose field the archive has been collected. In essence, this project marks the beginning of the digitization of field films in the Music and Folklore Archive, stored at the Institute for Art Studies, which have been inaccessible for decades.
