The first edition of the Sofia Numismatic School took place on September 12-16, 2023, with colleagues from Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Romania, and other countries participating. Sixteen young researchers and nine internationally renowned lecturers, scientists with expertise in the field of numismatics, took part. Sofia thus ranks among the world centers of numismatic research such as Vienna, Rome, and Athens, where such schools are institutionalized. The Sofia Numismatic School created an invaluable opportunity to establish and develop lasting and sustainable links between scientific and educational circles and young researchers in the context of pan-European processes of consolidation and cooperation.
Among the leading scientists who participated as lecturers in their capacity as internationally recognized researchers were Prof. François de Calata, Prof. Ilia Prokopov, Prof. Diliana Boteva, Assoc. Prof. Vladimir Stolba, Assoc. Prof. Yulia Tsvetkova, Assoc. Prof. Valentina Grigorova-Gencheva, Dr. Ulrike Peter, Dr. Nikolay Sharanov, and Dr. Lily Grozdanova. Each of them delivered a specialized course, which led to the acquisition and/or improvement of the students' numismatic expertise.
The event was hosted and organized by the Faculty of History of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski." The organizers would like to express their gratitude to the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication at Sofia University for providing the opportunity to use its hall for training during the first three days, as well as to the Botanical Garden of Sofia University, which hosted not only the lunch catering during these days, but also part of the scientific discussions.
