On November 29, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., in the conference hall of the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (Sofia, 6 Acad. G. Bonchev St., floor 7), a discussion meeting was held with a lecture on "Contemporary Methods for Assessing Elements of Intangible Cultural Heritage," presented by Prof. Mila Santova, PhD.

The event was jointly organized by the teams of the projects "Policies for the Preservation and Socialization of (Intangible and Movable) Cultural Heritage" and "Policies for the Preservation and Promotion of Immovable Cultural Values of Local Importance in Bulgaria. Ethnological analysis based on the examples of the municipalities of Balchik, Kavarna, Garmen, and Sandanski" in implementation of Activity B of Project BG05M2OP001-1.001-0001 ESTABLISHMENT AND DEVELOPMENT OF A CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE "HERITAGE BG" and the scientific-applied seminar "Research Methods in Ethnology and Anthropology" of the "Balkan Ethnology" section at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

The lecture presented basic principles and methods for evaluating artifacts and elements of cultural heritage. The difference in approaches to this evaluation was outlined, concerning the regulatory framework specific to the two types of heritage, as well as the ways in which they are constituted as such. Examples of good practices were presented. Possible problems that could arise in preparing for the inscription of elements and artifacts on the various UNESCO lists were also discussed. The topic of synergy between the various conventions for better preservation of artifacts and elements was examined.
The scientists from the two project teams discussed the methodological challenges they face and possible solutions to overcome them, provoked by and proposed during the lecture.
