In connection with Project BG05M20P001-1.001-0001 “Establishment and Development of the Center of Excellence ‘Heritage BG’” on October 24, 2019, at the St. St. Cyril and Methodius National Library (SSCMNL), a roundtable discussion was held on the topic “In Search of Priceless Documents.”

During the event, the topic “Exploring Literary Heritage—Traditions and Perspectives” was presented. A demonstration was also given showing the condition in which documents arrive at the library, how they are dusted, restored, and digitized, and how they become accessible through the National Library’s website. In the “History of the Book” hall, scholars from the National Library of Bulgaria presented the “Adopt a Book” initiative. Participants in the roundtable had the opportunity to view one of the National Library’s most valuable exhibits—the First Vidin Collection by Sofronius of Vratsa from 1802—and learned about Bulgarian manuscripts in UNESCO’s international “Memory of the World” register.

The digitization of Bulgaria’s cultural heritage and the creation of virtual reality are priorities in the strategic objectives of Project BG05M20P001-1.001-0001 “Establishment and Development of a Center of Excellence ‘Heritage BG’ under the Operational Program ‘Science and Education for Smart Growth’.”
