On June 18, 2020, at the building located at No. 7a Gen. Yosif V. Gurko Street No. 7a (Sofia), the groundbreaking ceremony was held for the construction and renovation works under Project BG05M2OP001-1.001-0001 “Construction and Development of the Center of Excellence ‘Heritage BG’.” The building is a cultural monument of local significance, and approval for its renovation has been received from the National Institute for Cultural Heritage. It was donated to the University by a professor of medicine.
The event was attended by the Rector of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” Prof. Anastas Gerdzhikov, Ph.D., representatives of all project partners, and guests.
The project leader, Assoc. Prof. Ivan Ilchev, Ph.D., opened the event and introduced the attendees to the history of the building. He presented the development prospects for the “Heritage BG” Center and its contribution to the promotion of Bulgaria’s cultural and natural heritage.
The Rector of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” Prof. Anastas Gerdzhikov, Ph.D., shared with the audience his satisfaction that the building, located in the center of the capital, will finally open its doors. This will create opportunities to showcase achievements in science and education, as well as the results of the work of universities and institutes affiliated with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
The activities in the building are related to the public procurement contract “Execution of engineering services (preparation of a detailed design, execution of construction and installation works, and exercise of design supervision) for the representative building of the Center of Excellence at 7 Gen. Gurko St. No. 7, Sofia, under Project No. BG05M2OP001-1.001-0001 “Construction and Development of the Center of Excellence ‘Heritage BG’,” funded under the Operational Program “Science and Education for Smart Growth” 2014-2020, Priority Axis 1 “Scientific Research and Technological Development,” co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).” The company “STROITEL” EOOD has been selected as the contractor for the project. The contractor is to prepare an investment project, perform construction, installation, restoration, and other necessary activities for the site, exercise design supervision during construction, complete the construction, and prepare an as-built drawing (if necessary), and provide warranty maintenance. The completion period is 180 calendar days. The total contract value is BGN 782,400 (including VAT).
