Regional History Museum – Ruse (Prehistory Hall)

The Late Prehistory in the Ruse Region is presented in the Prehistory Hall of the Regional History Museum – Ruse. It covers the period between the 7th and 4th millennium BC and includes the New Stone Age (Neolithic), the Chalcolithic period, and the transition to the Bronze Age. The nearly 600 exhibits on display tell the story of the life and death of the earliest farmers and herders. Everyday objects, tools, idols, jewelry, and amulets are on display. The exhibits come from sites in the Ruse region and bear witness to the economic, social, and religious structures of ancient farmers in prehistoric times. Most of them were discovered during archaeological excavations of the Ruse settlement mound – an ancient settlement from the Chalcolithic and Bronze Ages on the territory of the city of Ruse. The site is one of the few fully researched settlement mounds on Bulgarian territory. Other researched prehistoric sites in the Ruse region include the Neolithic settlements near Borovo and Koprivets, the settlement mounds near Kosharna, Bazovets, and others. Other prehistoric sites studied in the Ruse region are the Neolithic settlements near Borovo and Koprivets, the settlement mounds near Kosharna, Bazovets, Cherven, and the rock complex of Vodna-Tumno.

Part of the collections of ceramic vessels and plastic arts from the Chalcolithic period was photographed by students majoring in Public Information Systems and Library Information Sciences at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski.
